New catering menu introduced to Enfield schools

Pupils at Worcesters Primary School in Goat Lane were visited by Enfield Catering Services to test their new menu and ensure the food looked and tasted great. Hungry pupils tried out healthy, tasty and nutritious food, including summer vegetable pasta, beef Burritos, herb crusted cod, chicken meatballs, salad, fruit and many others. With the pupils’ approval, the recipes made their way to more than 60 school kitchens across the borough in spring term.

Pupils were joined by Cllr Ayfer Orhan, Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Children’s Services & Protection, who also had a school meal. She said, “Enfield Catering Service serves around 20,000 meals a day and parents and pupils can be assured that they provide meals of a consistently high quality which are freshly cooked on site, using high quality and ethically-sourced ingredients, so that they can provide the best possible standards of nutrition.

"For some young people their school meal is the only hot food they will have that day, so to ensure fairness for all we always serve food that is tasty, nutritious and meets their needs.”

All pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are eligible for free school meals. Children from families in receipt of certain benefits or on a low income are also eligible.
